We're Back!!!

Hello everyone! What a great trip! If you hadn't heard we just got back from CHA our annual buying show in California. Although the show was a bit smaller than in the past years the product spoke for itself. You are in for a treat with some amazing new lines coming soon!

A couple of our favorites were Authentique "Genuine". This line is going to go like crazy. It is so beautiful.

And Bazzill, wow they hit the jackpot with two of their newest designers Margie Romney Aslett and Janet Hopkins!

CHA DAY 3

Well the exhaustion has set in and the feet are sore but we are done! We had such a great show. Although it was much smaller this year than in the past the product made up for it as the lines this year were fabulous! I think you are going to be very excited to see what we are bring in.

We ordered all the new Tim Holtz distress markers and for those of you that like Copic you might like the new alcohol based markers by American Crafts. They work the same way that Copic do but for a fraction of the price!

CHA DAY 2!

Talk about brain overload! Day two and we just finished up with some ordering (10:30 p.m.) We found some amazing lines today but cant share everything or it won't be a surprise. We were so amazed with Bazzill! The new Margie is wonderful! We love it. And Janet Hopkins who used to be with Heidi Swapp also did a line for Bazzill and it is great! But on our hunt for more embellishments we found some great stuff from Melissa Frances and Maya Road. And wait until you see the new ribbon!!!! As Roxanne would say ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

CHA DAY 1!

Hello everyone! Well with sore feet and brain overload we finished our first day of CHA. We have seen some great product today and have a few pictures to share!

If you love Graphic45 then you are going to go crazy over their new lines. Its always so amazing to us how much better things look in person. Here are a few pictures of some of their samples.

From Envelopes to a Creative Journal

I love mini albums but I really like something different. So when I saw this very creative album by Sara of La-De-Dah, I just had to share. Its been a while since I have seen a envelope album and this one really caught my eye. I love the layers, the pockets and the whole concept. This would be a fun and easy project and if done on a smaller scale could make a great coupon book for Valentines day!

Well if you love making flowers then you're going to love this tutorial by The Crafting Chicks on making ric rac rosettes! They are so easy, fun and so cute and if you're like me you probably have tons of old or new ric rac sitting around just waiting to become something creative!

Scrapbooking Is So Much More Than a Page

So many people think that Scrapbooking is all about layouts but it is so much more than that! Its cards, mini albums, shadow boxes and covering stuff which is one of my personal favorites! So you can imagine how excited I was when I saw these great ideas for covering a globe! So where do you find a globe? Check out Homesense, I actually bought one there over a year ago and loved the globe but wasn't crazy on the color so now I am going to cover it.

Covering it should be easy, my suggestion would be to use Matte Medium by Claudine Hellmuth it is the best!

Using Your Old Tools

Do you have one of these?

Do you even know what it is? Its a paper crimper or corrugator! If you've been scrapbooking for some time you probably have one of these sitting in the bottom of your tool drawer some where. I have one and believe it or not actually use it from time to time. I think I might pull it out again after seeing this adorable card by Teri Anderson of Papercrafts Connection!

Teri shows some cool tips on how to use your crimper and ways to make your embellishments pop with just a turn of a handle!

Good morning everyone!

So when I came into the store yesterday I was pleasantly surprised. We just received the new We R Memory Keepers Easter line and it is ADORABLE!!! It features the cutest bunny you have ever seen. I'm surprised because in the past (and not WRMK) but Easter in general has not been the greatest for designs. Well this line is so pretty, the colours are beautiful and could definitely be used for other projects other than Easter. I also has to give a try the new stamp & sew and for those of you that don't like sewing this is the tool for you! It is so easy to use and the handle is multi purpose so if you have the sewing tool the handle works for both.

I was also in for a treat with the new BasicGrey Kissing Booth. This line rocks! It is so pretty and again is not just for Valentines!

So came across a few handy techniques from the Country Sampler Magazine that I thought you might want to tuck away in your technique folder! This one is a tea staining guide and if you visit their site there is also a great stitching guide and a few other crafty ideas!

Distress Ink 101

Do you have Distress Inks and are not using them to their full potential? Or have you hesitated when at the store not quite sure what you are supposed to do with them? Then you need to check out this video by Tim Holtz for Stampington! Because Distress are different from regular stampings inks, they react with water, you can do so much more in addition to regular stamping or distressing!

Here is an adorable project that would make a great gift or treat for anyone! Created by Ruth Bleakley of Poppytalk, Ruth has created these wonderful tiny treasures and they are so simple and easy to make.

I think this would be the type of project that would be great to make with all your scraps. What a wonderful idea to find under your pillow from the tooth fairy with a funny little poem and perhaps a few coins!

A Very Creative Book

I love when you see something old turned into something amazing! We all have old books lying around or if you don't just go to a local flea market, antique or book store and this project is within your reach. I know some of you might have a hard time dismantling an old book just for its cover but the insides are just as valuable too. I love old books pages for flower making or evenn backgrounds for a layout or card.

This great project is by Paperwhimsy and she has created three unique hangings that could be used as wall decorations, Christmas decorations or even a door sign!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello everyone, Happy New Year!

Well another year and another challenge! We are starting a new year of challenges and this year our challenge will be using a sketch! If you've used a sketch before then you know its a great way to get those creative juices flowing. If you've never used a sketch then you are in for a treat! But its not just a sketch we have to throw in a twist, each month the number of photos you use on your layout will multiply by one! So, by the end of the year December will have 12 photos! That should be interesting.

We have also added another new designer to our challenge team! Please welcome Nicole. Although Nicole is not a layout gal she is going to amaze you with her tags while still using the sketch! Now that's a challenge.

When I saw this I had to share, it is unbelievable! Designed and created by Jennifer Beason for Maya Road, Jennifer created this amazing Christmas wall hanging as her last submission with the Maya Road Design Team. If you can't find Jennifer on Maya Road then your going to have to follow her on her blog as she has some fabulous creations!

And although you probably won't have time to make something like this for this Christmas it would be a great after Christmas winter project!

Creating Your Own Faux Porcelain

So here is a cool technique that I came across some time ago, but was then sent to me again yesterday, creating your own porcelain embellishments! Its is actually a great technique and is the perfect embellishment you can create in just minutes. Baby Wipe Flowers?

Good morning everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend and ready to start another week of busy days and scrapbooking evenings!

Well for our first Festival of Trees entry we did pretty darn good and we were so proud to be a part of such an amazing event. If you haven't heard our tree came in second with close to 100 trees entered into the event! We also won a peoples choice award for favorite tree on Saturday so that was an even more exciting! So now we start planning for next year!!!!

So I came across this gorgeous flower and you won't believe what its made from .... baby wipes! Yes that's right. Designed by Heidi Blankenship of Embellished Dreams, she is amazing! She also designs for Spellbinders and has some over the top creative stuff on her blog, so check her out and you can also find full instructions on how she made this beautiful piece!

Christmas Presents!

Good morning everyone!

If you haven't started on your Christmas shopping list and just don't know what to get that certain person that you don't really exchange gifts with but are grateful for all they do, then this is the perfect project! It can be as quick as you want or as elaborate! We've made a couple of these over the years and they are always a big hit. Especially when they are filled with chocolate or Christmas candy.

Todays design comes from The Funkie Junkie. I love how elegant this cone looks and don't forget you don't have to decorate as elaborately if you are going to fill with a treat. However, if you do as she has then it would make the perfect Christmas decoration as well.

Now if you were really ambitious and were hosting the Christmas dinner you could make one for each persons chair with a name card in it for their place seating! Wouldn't that be a beautiful accent to your decor!

December is Here!

Wow, I can't believe its already December! Where does the time go? However, I love this time of year, everything seems so magical, even when it snows!!!!

So our December kits are ready and the girls did an amazing job, as usual. We are using the wonderful My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Christmas line and how could you not love this paper or have enough of it! I bought some and just couldn't bring myself to using it because its so beautiful. But now that I have a kit I don't feel so bad. Our technique this month was to use different textures, so our kits contain chipboard, metal, ribbon, wood and more!

Here are a few sneaks at what some of the girls came up with!

Festival of Trees!

Well here it is, with over 500 handmade flowers, a whole lot of white Bazzill cardstock and hours of laughs and some very talented ladies we designed, created and donated a tree for this years Festival of Trees! The garland, all the flowers, the tree skirt and even the bird were all handmade from paper.

Festival of Trees is a fundraiser that is put on by the University Hospital with proceeds going to help advance the Head and Neck Cancer Surgery Program at the University of Alberta Hospital.

The event runs from December 1-4, 2011 so check out their website for full details & times and don't forget to check out our Tree!!!!!

Have You Ever Heard of a Cram Book?

I loved this idea when I found it. It comes from us today via Pattie of Paperplates. It's her version of a December daily, and she calls is a cram book because is crammed with all sorts of wonderful things and as she says "whatever comes to mind". I love that idea!

Great Use of Layering

When I found this layout I was so drawn to it, in so many ways. It comes to us from Maple Treehouse in Singapore. I love the vintage feel but I think most of all I was drawn to the layering! I love the way she layered her product and yet it doesn't look over done or cluttered.

I've been searching for some unique and great ideas for advent calendars and came across this cool matchbox house. And for those of you that may not know we have a matchbox die cut in our crop room that would work perfectly when creating a project like this.

I love the way this one looks a little more vintage than the average advent calendar.

We Are All Inspired!

Our girls have been so inspiring lately, they have been creating like there is no tomorrow and we love it! Lori came in yesterday with this great Christmas card using the new Tim Holtz Doily die and these beautiful Pettaloo poinsettias.

Then along came Nicole and she created three amazing pieces. The first was an inspiration from Tim Holtz blog where he featured a pumpkin that had been done with this same technique. Nicole used scraps of metal she had in her stash and came up with this fabulous tree ornament!

Then came another gorgeous tag! Using the new Tim Holtz Doily and Pinecone dies Nicoles monochromatic tag is just stunning!

And last but certainly not least she made us this beautiful card using once again her favorite Tim Holtz! I thought the snow on the top had been cut out with a die but much to my surprise she used the Tim Holtz embossing folder and then added the glitter which made it pop even more. She then used the Tim Holtz townscape die and the new movers & shapers car, which I love the way she tied the tree on top!

So there you have it. Lots of inspiration to get those creative juices flowing!

A Countdown Classic

This fabulous countdown calendar was designed and created by our very own Lynette! Using one of the new Prima frames, Lynette cut a piece of wood and painted it with chalkboard paint as her base. She then used the Bo Bunny Blitzen line to embellish and create this wonderful piece that can be used year after year.

WRMK Advent Calendar Fun

So a couple of weeks ago I posted some ideas for this great advent calendar kit by We R Memory Keepers, but I thought I would try one out for display and was so excited by the outcome. This is a great little project to do with your kids or for yourself and is actually, believe it or not, white quick and very easy!

All the boxes open and are a little bigger than most so if you have more than one child its easy to fill with a few treats! The kits comes with absolutely everything and then some. The only thing I ended up constructing myself was the roof and it was pretty easy!

When looking for great ideas for the blog I also look for cool techniques that could be used on any project or scrapbooking page. When I came across this tag and followed the link I loved this simple yet very effective technique.

Today's post comes to us from Nancy Burke of Scraps and Ink. When creating her tag Nancy used masking tape to remove some of the words to give it a more vintage feel! Such an easy step and yet it really adds to the character of the tag. Nancy shows step by step instructions on how she achieved the final result of her very lovely tag!

Rock Candy Distress Crackle Technique

This is a really cool technique by the amazing Tammy Tutterow! Each Tuesday she does a new & cool technique on her blog and this week is no exception. So I am not even going to go into great detail as she has step by step instructions if you jump to her blog!So the also incredible Jan couldn't wait to try this cool technique and came up with this! She also wanted to use the new Tim Holtz snowflake dies and punched them in the new Tim Holtz Tissue Paper! This tissue paper is really cool. It has a stronger component unlike regular tissue!

Well I don't have a halloween project today but I have a great project by one of our customers Rhonda Witzke! Rhonda has been taking Roxanne's Year in Review class for two years now and her technique really shows! Using the Tim Holtz glassine paper, perfect pearls, alcohol inks and clear embossing Rhonda captures the special moments of the birth of her first child!

Great job Rhonda and thanks for sharing!

A Special Little Treat

Good morning everyone! Well with Halloween just days away its time to get all those last minute projects completed. When my daughter was little Lori used to give her and the other neighbourhood kids a special little treat, she would do up little candy bags stuffed full of sweets! So when I saw this cute candy box it made me think of Lori. Peppermint Twist - Advent Calendar

It's hard to believe but Christmas is already popping up everywhere in the stores and we haven't even gotten over Halloween! Well I'm not complaining because I love Christmas. So we received these great new kits from We R Memory Keepers and I am loving it. It is their new advent calendar kit from the Peppermint Twist line. I have started making one and will have it up at the store for display soon but look at all the cut variations I found that can be done with just this one kit!

THREE GREAT TIPS FROM SCRAPBOOK AND CARDS TODAY!

You are going to love these three tips from Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine. The first one is my personal favorite as I've done this mistake a few times!

Rub-on Redo

If you are like me, I get really nervous when working with rub-ons. Sometimes they don’t go down perfectly straight or I just don’t like how they look once I get them down. I recently discovered (by accident) that you can lift up rub-ons by covering a scrap piece of paper with repositionable tape and pressing it onto the rub-on. This lifts off the rub-on without tearing off the surface of the paper.

Journaling Help

When working with journaling cards, which several patterned paper companies include in their collections, you can easily run them through your printer, putting the text in exactly the right spot when you use repositionable adhesives. Follow these steps:

A – Calculate the text area on the journaling card. Create a text box this size using a word processing program on your computer. Type your journaling.

B – Print off the journaling onto plain white printer paper. Hold the paper up to a bright light to check for proper alignment and adhere the journaling card with repositionable tape.

C – Run the printer paper through your printer again and your journaling will now be in the right spot.

Die Cut Holder

If you are like me, it’s my bad luck to only have a small scrap left of the exact colour I need for diecutting. It’s also my luck to have the die shift as I am running it through my diecutting machine. In order to prevent this, run a strip of repositionable adhesive across your bottom plate (which can later be removed with Glue Gone). This really helps to keep those tiny and thin dies in place so absolutely no paper is wasted.

Kaiser Wood Ornaments!

Good morning everyone!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

I have been looking at the Kaiser Wooden Flourishes day in and day out and finally decided to take one home and create. What a great little project. It would make a great gift, tree ornament or attach to a present!

I started off with the Kaiser wood ornament and painted it black, I just used regular black acrylic paint (Ranger Adirondack Paint Dauber). Once it was dry I painted each side again with Judikins Diamond Glaze and immediate glittered it with the micro fine Glamour Glitter by Craft & Glitz. I then set it aside to dry.

While it was drying I cut out of cardstock the Spellbinder Poinsettia. I make one of the petals a slightly different color red to make it more real. I inked the edges of the petals of the poinsettia, layered them and attached with a brad. I then added some gold stickles to the brads. The leaves were cut with the same Spellbinder in green, edges were inked and attached with glue dots.

Once the poinsettia was ready I used my hot glue gun to attach. I added black gingham ribbon and hemp to finish off! So easy.

Holy Bats Batman!

If you've been in the store lately then I am sure will see we have been invaded by bats! Well don't worry they're quite harmless! Made from black card stock these great Halloween creatures were a breeze to make and easy to adhere to any surface (we used scotch tape!) With only a couple of weeks until Halloween it's time to get decorating! The pattern is free and available from Country Living. So get stocked up on your black cardstock and get cutting!

Have you tried a Spellbinder yet or do you know what a Spellbinder is? Well, if you have a Cuttlebug, Big Shot or Vagabond then this could open up a whole new world for your scrapbooking or card making craft! Spellbinders along with many other metal cast dies can be used in any of the above personal cutting systems and are a fun way to take your paper crafting to a whole new level. Here is a cute little pumpkin which was made using a Spellbinder. These would make the perfect table decor for Thanksgiving or perhaps you could even make them into place cards!

Home for the Holidays

Have you ever done a December daily? I tried it one year but found it took a real commitment not only time (that was the big one) but a real effort. However, this little gem by Cherry's Jubilee is just a wonderful little Christmas project that I think I could commit to. Anyhow, she used bingo cards for each page but as there are so many wonderful papers out there I am sure you could make something just as wonderful. We actually have some wonderful little chipboard books at the store (The Urban Scrapbook) called the "Sheri Book" which would make a wonderful Christmas album!

Krista's Challenge #1

Good morning everyone!

We're starting something new and we want you to join Krista in her challenge each month! If you don't know who Krista is, she's one of our talented design team members and part-time Urban Girl. Krista thought it would be fun to do a challenge once or twice a month so her first challenge is to scrapbook phone photos! We all take photo's on our phones but do you every scrapbook them? Now is the time!

This month Krista used the new fall/halloween line by American Crafts! With coordinating buttons, brads and wooden alpha's and butterflies by Pink Paislee, Krista featured six fun family photos from her iphone! She also added a little burlap which gives it the perfect fall feeling!

Getting Organized

We are all looking for ways to get better organized and make things work so that when it comes to scrapbooking its easy to find all those wonderful treasures we have purchased. We recently received some great new stamp storage containers by Cropper Hopper and although I'm not a huge stamper I found a wonderful way to store my Spellbinders, thin dies and the few stamps I have.

Each container comes with 15 organizer cards (you can buy more) if you have lots. I then took a zip lock baggie and adhered to the plastic organizer card with Sookwang tape. Leave the zip part open to pop your dies in the baggie. I also keep the card from the spellbinder package so cut that down and fit it into the baggie as well!

Oh, the little black and white piece on the front is magnetic and it adheres to the front of your box it can hold your acrylic blocks! So cool.

This is So Cool!!!

Now this is what I call inspirational! Created by Shelly Hickox, an avid stamper, came up with this cool idea using Tim Holtz dies, paint, and a lot of different Idea-ology embellishments. It was given its metallic look with the use of an Adirondack Silver Dabber and a Pitch Black Dabber. Wow, what a great idea and the perfect touch to finish off a costume or for the party boy/girl!

Good morning everyone!

We hope you are all enjoying this beautiful fall weather we are so deserving of! There has been so much product arriving in the store each week it has been so exciting. If you haven't been in in a while you will probably find that the entire store is completely restocked with new!!! And we know how much you all like new product! One of our favorite lines the past couple of seasons is Crate Paper and they continue to wow us with their new lines. Their newest line Peppermint is adorable and featured on their blog is this great layout by Kaori Watanabe. I love the way she has used a mask and faintly spritzed in white to give a frosted effect!

BRA-VO to Jan

Last year Jan created this amazing bra for our Breast Cancer fundraiser. It was used during our weekend event and then she donated it to a wonderful lady named Hazel. Hazel is a long time customer and an avid fundraiser for cancer. Excited to receive this amazing piece of work Hazel had the bra autographed by various Edmonton Oilers and the bra was auctioned off for .... $5,000.00 and now resides somewhere in the middle east! So Jan, congratulations on your part for creating such an amazing project and we all thank Hazel for her continued efforts to help make this world a better place!

Pink Paislee Mistables Project

I found this fabulous project while blog surfing at Pink Paislee! If you haven't had a chance to try out their mistable products you might like something like this! Designer Jess Mutty came up with this great idea using mistable papers, pleated strips and created banners which are quick and easy to feature each product! Using an old picture frame she added wire and mini clothes pins to hang each project!

This is Cool!

Yesterday I got a change to play with a new product we just received "Mold-n-Pour" by Ranger. It is a two part putty that when applied together turns into a moulding substance and sets in 10 minutes! You can press any object into it before it sets to create a mould. So I thought I would try it out with a button!

I used just a small portion of the package so it really does go a long way. Moulded the two putties together in a ball and then pressed my button into the putty. Once it started to harden I effortlessly removed my button, gave it a few more minutes to set and my mould was done.

Then, using my melting pot I melted some Utee (also by Ranger) and added a little Alcohol ink to give it color. I used the color Stream and added a few drops and mixed it in. I then poured it into my mould. Once it was dry (which only took a few minutes) I popped it out and voila! I then took it one step further and tried the new Snow Cap Mixatives by Ranger. This is there new white that when mixed with regular alcohol ink turns it from translucent to opaque. When I added a few drops it changed it to a solid color which gave it a completely different look!

The whole process took just minutes and was so much fun! So today I am off to find fun things to make moulds of!
